Facilities
Wellies Day Nursery is in a converted & extended Farm Cottage. There are rooms dedicated to the care of children, along with Kitchen, Office, Laundry, Reception & Parents Room, Children’s Bathrooms, Sluice/Nappy changing & Staff Room. Large Garden.
We have 6 rooms dedicated to your child's care to ensure we can devote the correct staffing ratios for children in different age groups, from the baby room through to Paddington room. When your child reaches Super Ted's room they will be preparing for "big school" and looking forward to growing up without us,although we hope they don't forget us.
Outdoor Play Area
Wellies has the largest outdoor play area for the under 5’s in Milton Keynes. The garden is mainly grass with a patio & 2 soft surface play areas. There are climbing frames, slides, houses & a sand pit - in amongst the trees. We are developing vegetable growing areas & mud for digging in. There are plenty of sit & ride toys, balls, bats, hoops & balancing equipment for the children to access. The children can see activity on the Farm from a safe distance, in the security of our garden - the big red tractor, green combine & sometimes the black dog - Spark. They may have the opportunity of ‘meeting the cows’ either in barns or in the field adjacent to the garden!
There is a smaller, soft surface area suitable for the Babies & Toddlers - where their needs can be individually met.
Childcare Team
Wellies is managed on a day to day basis by the owner. There is a Management team - Deputy, Third in Charge, Senior Nursery Nurse & 3 Team Leaders who all have an active role in childcare & developing systems at Wellies. They have achieved NVQ 2/3/4 in Management.
We currently have 15 Qualified Nursery Nurses & 4 Nursery Assistants. Wellies has an on site Cook - who prepares fresh meals, daily. We also have a Kitchen Assistant - who helps to serve meals & wash up, along with managing the Laundry at Wellies. The Cleaner comes to clean Wellies in the evenings - when all of the children have gone home!
All of the Team are ISA Registered, CRB checked and references from previous employer.
Profile of the Owner
Helen has a massive amount of childcare experience to share with you. Having trained at the prestigious Norland Nursery Training College in 1982 (www.norland.co.uk). Helen began her childcare career in 1984 as a Nanny - during which she cared for children of Royalty & Celebrities. In 1989, after a period of working in a Day Care Setting - Helen had the opportunity to set up her own Nursery & so Wellies Day Nursery was born. Wellies is proud to be independent and owner managed from the outset so we have complete control on what is best for your child care needs. You will really be able to see how our knowledge and experience gathered over the last 18 years caring for over 1173 children… and counting! We will make your childcare experience with us memorable, educational and fun which gives your child the best start in life.
Not only is Helen a great childcare expert she is also happily married to Stephen “the Farmer” and a mother to 3 beautiful Children ( Rebecca, Thomas and Peter!) All attended Wellies & are now in Secondary Education.
Helen is also a real supporter of the local community, helping at North Crawley Sunday School - J Team - when her own children were younger & now through Milton Keynes Hockey Club as Welfare Officer. Active Charity fund raiser for Willen Hospices, Children in need, comic relief and neonatal unit at Milton Keynes hospital.
Helen has also achieved higher qualifications - NVQ Assessor for Childcare in 1997, NVQ Level 5 Management in 2003 & in 2001 completed the program for Effective Early Learning (EEL) with the Centre for Research in Early Childhood, University College Worcester.
Helen’s philosophy is to care for children in the countryside - giving them educating experiences in fun, safe & loving environments.
