As the chill of winter melts away and the days grow longer, we’re thrilled to welcome the much loved season of spring here at Wellies Nursery. This time of year brings colour to life, offering countless opportunities for our little ones to engage with nature in a sensory-rich environment.

Nature's Classroom

We encourage parents to get outside with their children regularly, whether it's a visit to a park, a walk in the woods or simply playing in the garden. These outdoor adventures can spark a desire to learn about the natural world. The flowers coming up in all their glorious colours, the feel of grass on their feet, the cheerful songs of the birds returning from their winter hols - the list goes on.
Getting Green Together

Why not do some gardening together? Start a small garden at home - let the children dig around in the soil, plant seeds and (hopefully!) watch them grow. This hands-on activity teaches responsibility and educates them on the cycles of nature. You can even get your own veg patch on the go which in turn helps teach them about the importance of healthy eating and sustainable food - win win!
Encourage Sensory Play

Sensory play is vital for early development and spring offers the perfect backdrop for this. Consider a nature treasure hunt (like Bing!) where children can search for different flowers, leaves and even small creatures. Encourage them to collect items then describe their textures and colours. This hands-on experience enhances their observational skills and boosts their understanding of the environment.

Story-time in the Sunshine

Last but not least, spring is a wonderful opportunity to take story-time outdoors! Reading under a tree or on a blanket in the grass adds an extra layer of enjoyment and excitement. Choose books that celebrate nature and spring - why not check out our book of the month the ever faithful Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle?

At Wellies Nursery, we are committed to helping our little ones develop a love for the natural world that will last a lifetime. Help us encourage the children to step outside, feel the sun on their skin and discover the magic of spring - one petal, one ladybird and one story at a time - it may just do you guys some good too!
