One of the biggest differences children notice when they start school is the expectation that they will complete many daily tasks independently. Developing these practical life skills gives children confidence and helps them settle into their new environment more quickly.
At Wellies, we gently encourage independence throughout the day by allowing children to complete tasks for themselves, while always offering encouragement and support when needed.
Children are encouraged to:
Put on and fasten their own coats and shoes.
Hang up their coats and bags when they arrive.
Wash and dry their hands before meals and after using the toilet.
Use the toilet confidently and understand good hygiene routines.
Pour their own drinks and manage snack and lunchtime routines.
Tidy away toys and resources after activities.
Take responsibility for looking after their belongings.

As another group of preschool children prepares to leave Wellies Day Nursery, we couldn't be prouder of everything they have achieved.
Over the past months and years, we have watched them grow into confident, curious and caring young learners. They've built friendships, discovered new interests, overcome challenges and developed the skills they need to flourish in Reception.
While every child's journey is unique, we know they are leaving us with strong foundations that will support them throughout their education.
