July is Wild About Wildlife Month, a vibrant celebration of the beauty and vital importance of wildlife in our world — and at Wellies Day Nursery, we embrace it every single day.

Exploring Right on Our Doorstep
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, Wellies offers an unrivalled outdoor learning environment: fields of wildflowers, woodland edges, and even glimpses of deer, hares, foxes, and flocks of birds that roam just outside our windows. Children are able to explore and ask “What’s that?” — building curiosity and connection with nature.
Wildflowers & Nature Play
The nursery’s grounds bloom with native wildflowers—poppies, daisies, buttercups—perfect for tiny hands to gently explore. Collecting petals, smelling the breeze, identifying colours and shapes: each moment fuels sensory development and environmental awareness.

Caring for Our Natural World
We don’t just observe — we act! Inspired by Wild About Wildlife Month’s call to conservation and ecological awareness, we:
Encourage litter-picks and recycling efforts on-site.
Plant wildflowers to support pollinators.
Foster respect for all creatures through gentle, guided interaction
Nature in Every Moment: Learning, Playing & Growing with Wildlife

At Wellies Day Nursery, nature isn’t just a backdrop — it’s an active part of every child’s day. Our little learners are surrounded by countryside wildlife that brings the outside world to life in magical ways. Helping children tune into the natural rhythms around them. From colourful butterflies to busy ladybirds, the children begin to understand how every creature — big or small — plays a role in the world we share.

But it doesn't stop at observation — we bring nature into play and learning. Children craft with collected leaves and petals, paint pictures inspired by what they see outside, and build bug hotels to give their mini-beast friends a home. Storytime often happens beneath the trees, where imaginations grow wild and stories come alive. Leaf collages, muddy play kitchens, and natural treasure hunts encourage creativity, sensory exploration, and problem-solving — all while deepening their bond with the outdoors.
This daily blend of free-flow nature play and guided environmental learning supports every area of a child’s development, aligning beautifully with our ethos at Wellies: to nurture curious, confident children who feel connected to the world around them.

Why It Matters

Wild About Wildlife Month isn’t just a date on the calendar — it brings awareness to conservation and teaches children their part in caring for the planet. At Wellies, we’re proud that the children grow up wild about wildlife — respectful, curious, and connected to the natural world.
Happy Wild About Wildlife Month from all of us at Wellies Day Nursery! Let’s keep growing wonder, caring hearts, and budding wildlife champions—one paw print and flower petal at a time.
